Confessions From A Soda Bottle
Yes, I may taste good.
Yes, I am loaded with calories and sugar.
Yes, I have been linked to different chronic diseases.
But, I have to tell you, you don’t know who I really am.
Underneath the sugar, calories, artificial ingredients and caramel color, I am a drink with feelings.
I just want to be part of your life…
Part of your family…
I just want to be as accepted as my nemesis, water.
Who am I kidding? I don’t want to be any of those!
I just want to rob your pocket of money and rob your body of its health!
And did you know, I really may CAUSE chronic diseases…
Sugar-sweetened Beverages and Diabetes Risk
Besides heart disease and cancer, what else is considered a major health crisis in this nation?
It would be diabetes, in the form of Type 2 Diabetes.
And what is the #1 cause of this disease? Being overweight, eating a poor diet, and yes, excess refined sugar.
And where do you get TONS of excess sugar? You got it! Sugar-sweetened beverages!
Although they may taste great, don’t be deceived! These types of beverages may be the cause of much of today’s health crisis.
With ever expanding waistlines and more people diagnosed as pre-diabetics, it’s no wonder why the state of this countries health may be deteriorating as the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages continues to rise.
And, this country is not alone. A new study from England shows that the ill-effects of sugar-sweetened beverages is virtually everywhere.
Here’s what they found:
They found that a one can per day increase in sugar-sweetened beverages increased the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes.
And, after making adjustments for lifestyle and BMI, the results remained the same, but the association between artificially-sweetened beverages was no longer significant.
They did find one positive: juice and nectar consumption was not associated with the development of type 2 diabetes.
They concluded:
“This study corroborates the association between increased incidence of type 2 diabetes and high consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks in European adults.”
Sugar-sweetened Beverages and Health
As you already know, the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages has been linked to adverse health conditions.
In fact, these types of beverages have been linked to weight gain, cancers, and even diabetes.
And this was all in the US.
However, a new study shows that increased consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages – in Europe – may also lead to an increased risk for type 2 diabetes development.
If you want to improve your health, avoiding sugar-sweetened beverages may not only improve your weight loss, but it may also reduce your risk for developing diabetes.
