Most people start their day with a tall glass of juice – it could be orange, cranberry, grapefruit, etc.
But, what you may not know is that there may be some ingredients found in your fruit juice that well, may not be great for you.
For instance, some fruit juices contain additives, such as apple juice, to thicken and add volume to their favorite juice (including orange and other juices).
But, that’s not all they contain…
Three Dangerous Additives
As appealing as most fruit juices look sitting on a grocery store shelf, some may be hiding ingredients that are less than healthy for you.
Plus, some of those ingredients may lead to excess weight and fat gain.
But, if you take the time to read the ingredients, then you may be surprised to find just how many additives are in your favorite juice brands.
Not all of the additives are bad (think apple juice as a filler), but some may be.
Here are three ingredients that may pose a risk to your health:
1. Added Sugar
Fruit itself has naturally occurring sugars that make the product sweet. But some companies take it a step further and may add additional sugar just to sweeten it.
One big one is high fructose corn syrup, or sometimes named corn syrup or corn sugar.
This sweetener may cause excess spikes in blood sugar, fat gain, and an increased risk for diabetes.
You should avoid all products that contain this added sugar source to maintain a healthy waistline.
2. Yellow 5 and Yellow 6
These two food coloring additives are used to brighten your product and make the color appear stronger.
But, these two food colors may be dangerous to your health.
Some studies show that these two dyes may increase learning difficulties in children, cancer, and other adverse reactions.
3. Canola Oil
Some products may contain canola oil to add to the fatty acid composition of the juice.
But, the addition of this oil may add extra calories, which could lead to fat gain.
Plus, higher fat gain may lead to higher cholesterol and blood pressure numbers (not good for your heart).
Beware of Your Juice Product
There are many things that may add to your expanding waistlines. In fact, eating the wrong foods, having too many excess calories, and not moving as much are three perfect examples.
But, hidden in some of the foods you currently eat, may be dangerous additives and nutrients that may pose a risk to not only your health, but your waistline too.
For example, many common fruit juices that you drink may contain additives that not only add excess calories, but may lead to excess fat gain.
Take home message: Pay very close attention to the ingredients on the label. Not only will they tell you exactly what is in your product, you may be better informed to making healthier choice options.
Or, you can simply start making your own juice! Either way, you could be saving your body from the harmful effects of extra fat gain.
