Four Natural Ways To Boost Your Calorie Burning
You have probably heard a lot about metabolism over the course of your weight loss lifetime.
Things like, “my metabolism is slow – so I can’t lose weight…"
Or, “he can eat whatever he wants and NOT gain a thing…"
Even simply, “if you boost your metabolism, you will lose weight!”
Now, all of these statements may be true – especially the last one.
And if you do boost your metabolism – by using the tips below – you will LOSE weight, SHRED the fat, and look damn good in your bikini, one-piece, or for the guys, with your shirt off.
But what can you do – and do NOW since beach season is rapidly approaching – to boost your metabolism and enable your body to work for you and not against you?
Well, I’m so glad you asked…
The Keys to a Healthy Metabolism
Now, before we get into the best ways to boost your metabolism, first you should understand a little bit about your metabolism.
Metabolism basically refers to how your body processes and breaks down nutrients, such as protein, fats, sugars, and carbohydrates.
Now, you should understand that the things you do in your life, will help determine how fast – or slow – your metabolism is.
You see, metabolism utilize the calories you eat, and the calories you burn through exercise or daily activities, and your genetics to determine just how many calories you should be burning in a day.
Now, if the numbers are too low – then chances are your weight may increase – and that includes your fat stores.
But if the number is HIGH, then chances are you are burning quite a few calories throughout the day, therefore preventing weight gain and fat gain.
Now, if you don’t eat enough, your metabolism may slow down, all due to the fact that your body may be unsure of when its next meal is, which may lead to fat storage.
But if you are constantly feeding your body the right foods, then your metabolism could stay elevated, resulting in greater weight loss, fat burn, and a better looking body.
Plus, there are certain foods out there – like protein, for example – that require your body to work harder (sometimes TWICE as hard) to break down that nutrient.
Result = MORE CALORIES ARE BURNED! This is called the thermic effect of food.
The other avenue you need to worry about is your age!
It’s been shown that as you age, your metabolism may start to slow down.
This is very true! Some people’s metabolism slows by FIVE to TEN percent PER DECADE!
The reason for this slowdown: lack of exercise and physical activity and an increase in calorie-rich foods may do the trick!
But if you eat right and continue to exercise, you may protect your metabolism from slowing down (not completely stopping it) therefore enabling you to keep your weight in check.
So how can you keep your metabolism elevated?
The Top Four Ways To Boost Metabolism
Here are four simple ways you can boost your metabolism and keep burning fat – even at NIGHT!
1. Feed the Beast
Feeding your metabolism may be the NUMBER ONE thing to focus on when looking to boost your metabolism.
Focus your efforts on eating four to six small meals, every two to three hours, for maximum metabolism-boosting.
Not only does eating more frequently boost your metabolism, it may also stabilize your blood sugar, therefore keeping your energy at its highest throughout the day.
The theory behind eating more often is pretty simple: you basically are feeding your muscles the energy they need and starving your fat cells, therefore potentially causing them to empty out their stored fatty acids.
And, as previously mentioned, eating more often lets your body know you want it to be healthy, therefore, it's ok to burn the extra energy that is stored in your fat cells.
So go ahead, eat more often to boost your metabolism!
2. Afterburn is Not Just for Jets
Afterburn refers to the time after you exercise, when your body is in prime mode to burn fat and replenish your muscles.
But this is not done with just any type of exercise.
You would need to add in interval training, high-intensity training, or even sprint training to the mix.
Not only could you burn more calories during the workout – sometimes as much as 200 to 400 extra calories – but you will burn MORE after the workout.
And you may continue to burn calories as long as 24 to 48 hours after the workout is done!
So include shorter, more intense bouts of exercise in order to burn fat and ROCK your metabolism!
3. Muscle = GOOD Metabolism
In order to boost your metabolism, you NEED to include some sort of strength training.
It could be lifting weights, body weight training, or any combination of exercise.
But in order to boost your metabolism, you really need to build the lean mass on your body.
In fact, it’s been shown that adding even five pounds of muscle - as opposed to fat - will boost your metabolism without doing anything at all.
Although fat is a potent organ for fat burning, lean muscle mass is even better at burning calories, just to sustain it so you don’t lose your lean muscle stores.
4. Choose Your Foods Wisely
You also need to choose your foods wisely. Filling up on cake, cupcakes, and ice cream may do very little for boosting your fat loss.
Choose foods that are closest to their source, like lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and essential fats.
Your body will process these nutrients (some longer than others) and use them for energy, building blocks, or for storage.
Including the right foods – at the right times (see #1) – may help boost your metabolism and shred the fat you have stored on your body.
