The Secret To Enhancing Memory With This Potent Brain "Food"
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CES--Level 1 Certified Precision Nutrition and Certified Personal Trainer
Today, you are going to learn about one of the MOST important nutrients when it comes to brain health.
And this nutrient, which is readily available, comes from a unique source that you may, or may not get regularly in your diet.
What could it be, you may be asking?
It’s one of the omega-3 fatty acids – specifically DHA – which could improve your memory.
And this is VITAL information as you age!
A NEW study shows that DHA could be a very important nutrient when you are looking to improve memory and/or brain health.
DHA and Memory
Now, there are many studies that show omega-3 fatty acids may be effective at improving memory - especially as you get older.
However, this study shows that mice, whose diets were supplemented with DHA, could have better function in their hippocampus compared to mice that were not supplemented with DHA.
And this, they found, was very IMPORTANT for memory and learning.
So here’s what happened:
The researchers supplemented the diets of mice with DHA or without DHA.
They were looking for changes in the activity of the cell synapses when exposed to electrical stimulation, plus increased concentrations of DHA in the brain matter.
They found – when compared to the control group – the mice supplemented with DHA had a 29 percent INCREASE in the hippocampus of DHA, or the part of the brain that could be a KEY structure in producing new memories.
Not only did they show that the concentration of DHA INCREASED in the hippocampus, but that the DHA levels ENHANCED synaptic transmission when compared to the control group.
And that the synaptic response, well, it was seen just 60 minutes after supplementation!
The researchers concluded:
“These finding suggest that dietary DHA supplementation improves synaptic plasticity following brief electrical stimulation. This increase in synaptic transmission might provide a physiological correlation for the improved spatial learning and memory following DHA supplementation.”
Simply put, the researchers believe that, due to the increased DHA concentrations, that there was an increase in synaptic transmission, which could be better memory and learning.
Boost Your DHA Intake
Omega-3 fatty acids, which could improve heart health, joint health, and eye health, are essential fats that your body needs EVERY DAY in order to maintain normal cellular functioning.
And they could be important for enhancing your brain health, which may provide benefit to your memory and ability to learn.
Including wild-caught fatty fish (salmon for example), flaxseed, flaxseed oil, or krill oil may increase your levels of omega-3 fatty acids – specifically DHA – which could provide numerous health benefits for you and your brain.
With just a few pills, or a few servings of fatty fish per week, you may have the silver bullet when it comes to providing your body with better brain health.
