Is Your Workout Causing Your ED?
“Honey, it only happened that one time…”
Those were the words that Phil heard over and over again in his head the next morning in the shower.
He was mortified…
Not only was he unable to get it done the night before in the bedroom…
It had also happened a few other times in the last few weeks! He was worried…he was scared…but most of all, he was embarrassed that he couldn’t perform when it mattered the most.
“I’m only 26,” he kept saying to himself. What could have changed in order to completely drain his energy?
After all, he had started to work out a little more and has recently started a new training program to get him ready for 10 K road race.
Come to think about it, he always noticed some “other” changes that were occurring in his body.
He had started to workout in order to look better naked. But what he saw when you looked in the mirror was anything but that.
He saw fat covering his pecs…he saw love handles…and he saw his energy levels start to plummet.
What was happening? Where was the 26 year old man that he was accustomed to seeing?
Where did he go?
Well, it all had to do with his new training program…
Running and Testosterone
One of the main reasons why his testosterone was starting to drop was due to the training program he was currently doing.
You see, long duration running has been shown to reduce testosterone! For example, in one study, participants who ran more than 40 miles a week, had lower testosterone levels compared to those who performed shorter, more intense exercise.
In another study, researchers tested the testosterone level s of men who had just participated in a marathon.
They showed that these men were almost 50 percent LOWER compared to baseline numbers taken the day before.
One theory as to why this occurred had to do with the higher levels of cortisol present in the body after the race.
Now, I don’t feel that you should stop your cardio routine right now and make immediate changes.
After all, cardiovascular exercise is extremely beneficial to your health! Studies show that it may improve your heart health and lower your blood pressure.
However, doing too much (40 miles or more per week), could have negative effects on your health.
Studies show that doing too much long-duration activity could actually negatively impact your heart health—not to mention your testosterone levels!
Take Home Message
There are millions of men each year who may suffer from low testosterone levels.
This could lead to issues in the bedroom…weight gain…and lack of energy.
Now, there could be numerous reasons why you’re suffering from low testosterone.
One problem could be your training program! Studies show that men who perform long-duration cardiovascular exercise could have much lower testosterone levels—possibly due to the high amount of cortisol
But there is a way to prevent this from occurring! Studies show that shorter, more intense exercise could actually boost your testosterone and keep your cortisol levels down.
So, if you want to boost your testosterone levels—and give your bedroom life a much needed boost—then consider changing your training plan to include shorter, more intense (sprints, jumping jacks, jump rope, hill sprints, etc.) bouts of exercise.
