This Nutritional "Prankster" Is Fooling Everyone (but not me)
What do you use in your cup of coffee or tea in the morning or afternoon?
Do you use regular table sugar?
Or do you use something that comes in a blue, pink, or yellow packet?
Artificial sweeteners are an attractive option when it comes to weight loss seekers or even health seekers.
Why?
Everyone has heard about the evil of sugar and how it may do massive damage in your body and to your cells.
So, a lot of people turn to artificial sweeteners to enhance the bitter taste of their drink or just to satisfy their sweet craving.
But, by doing this they may be HARMING their health – instead of improving it!
Artificial Sweeteners and Health
Now, most people use artificial sweeteners to replace sugar in their coffee, tea, or other drinks.
And this may seem – on the outside – like a smart idea, since there is a problem in this country with too much added sugar.
The reason: Too much added sugar is slowly become the center of attention when it comes to many of the chronic diseases.
Sugar – once it enters your body – has been shown to spike your blood sugar, therefore requiring your body to counteract that sharp increase.
Your body then produces and releases insulin from your pancreas in order to match this sudden spike in blood sugar.
Now, some of the sugar may be transferred into your muscles, where it is either stored or used for energy.
However, some of the remaining sugar may be converted into fat, therefore increasing your weight.
And this may lead to an increase in weight-related chronic diseases such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.
All of this could increase your risk for developing cancer or heart disease.
Now, most people use artificial sweeteners when they are attempting to lose weight, are diabetic, or for other health ailments that they may have.
Believing that artificial sweetener will do what sugar does – sweeten the drink - without the dangerous health implications of sugar.
But, what you may not know is that you are DEAD wrong in that thought process.
Why?
Artificial sweeteners may lead to cancer, increased appetite for sweet and sugary foods, and may even lead to weight gain, if you’re not careful.
But first, what are artificial sweeteners anyhow?
What Are They?
Artificial sweeteners are chemically-made particles that may come from plants, herbs, or even sugar.
And some are natural sweeteners that come from plant sources – such as agave - and may undergo processing and refinement before they are packaged for consumption.
In most cases, they are sweeter than average sugar, which may be the cause of the sweet food cravings.
On the plus side, they contain little or NO calories; therefore, they provide an attractive option to people who are struggling to lose weight.
And, since they are not real sugar, they may not increase your blood sugar which pales in comparison to table sugar, which creates those tremendous blood sugar spikes.
Now, one other attractive option to these sweeteners: They require only a fraction of the amount, due to the fact that they are much sweeter than sugar.
So what are some other benefits?
Well, since they have NO calories, they may be attractive when looking to boost your weight loss.
But this may be a myth. The reason: Some studies show that artificial sweeteners may lead to cravings for sugary foods, which could lead to overeating your favorite treat or the cupcake from the vending machine.
Secondly, artificial sweeteners may be an attractive option for diabetics, due to little to no adverse reactions in their blood sugar.
However, there is another study that shows that artificial sweeteners – like what’s found in diet soda – may be linked to an increased risk for diabetes.
The Bottom Line
Although artificial sweeteners are a way to sweeten drinks without the use of harmful sugar, they may not be a healthy or wise decision.
Most artificial sweeteners are chemically made from plants, herbs, or other sources and are a lot sweeter than regular table sugar.
And this may lead to sweet food cravings and possibly a higher risk for diabetes.
The bottom line: If you are to use artificial sweeteners, use them in moderation.
On the outside they may look good, but they also may pose serious health complications and adverse reactions if you’re not careful.
