The SUGAR SHOCKER That Is Rocking Your Brain

In case you needed another reason to AVOID sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and white flour, I have another one for you.

A new study shows that by eating sugary foods that are higher on the glycemic index scale, the more likely you are to have food cravings.

Interested?  You SHOULD be!

And, these cravings may be leading to increased food intake, greater gains in weight and fat, and possibly a stronger addiction to higher-glycemic foods.

Not good when you’re trying to lose weight…

High-Glycemic Foods and Your Brain

There has been a lot of research that shows white sugar may be just as addictive as certain drugs like cocaine and heroin.

The reason: Refined sugar has been shown to stimulate the area of the brain that controls addiction, reward, and CRAVINGS.

When that area is stimulated, your body may end up craving sugary foods, refined carbs, and white flours.

So basically, you end up craving JUNK FOOD.

Now, a new study (with a small population of subjects) has discovered some interesting things about higher-glycemic food and your brain.

They hypothesized that a high-glycemic meal (refined sugar, white flours, or table sugar) would increase the blood flow to areas of the brain that control eating behaviors, cravings, and rewards.

Here’s what they discovered:

First, the high-glycemic drink resulted in a 2.4-fold INCREASE in blood sugar compared to the low-glycemic food.

And after FOUR hours, blood sugar was LOWER but appetite and food cravings were HIGHER in the high-glycemic meal group compared to the low-glycemic meal group.

Now, here is where it gets interesting…

The high-glycemic meal resulted in GREATER brain activity – in the nucleus accumbens – which is linked to cravings, hunger, reward, and appetite control.

And, this response spread to other areas of the brain.

They concluded:

“Compared with an isocaloric low-GI meal, a high-GI meal decreased plasma glucose, increased hunger, and selectively stimulated brain regions associated with reward and craving in the late postprandial period, which is a time with special significance to eating behavior at the next meal.”

Another Reason to AVOID Sugar

Sugar, refined carbs, and processed white flour…

Whatever you call it, this type of CARB is the worst type of carb you could be eating.

Not only does it create sharp increases in your blood sugar – as well as a sharp crash – but it also stimulates areas of your brain that control addiction, reward, and CRAVINGS.

So, if you’re finding it hard to lose weight – and have been craving certain JUNK foods – then it may be time to make some changes to your diet plan that eliminates refined carbs and sugar.

Your brain – and waistline – may reward your efforts with fewer food cravings and greater FAT LOSS.
