The 5 Common Ways You're Sabotaging Your Results
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CES--Level 1 Certified Precision Nutrition and Certified Personal Trainer
Just for fun, I googled the term “weight loss” this morning…
And to my surprise, 677,000,000 different pages popped up—each giving various degrees of weight loss advice.
Am I shocked? No.
Weight loss is one of the hottest markets out there. Why?
Everyone wants to lose weight and keep it off.
In high school, did you ever think that you would be 20 Lbs. overweight, stressed out, and would have a hard time fitting into your size 2 clothes?
Probably not! But the sad fact is: this is a reality for most people! Now, before your heart sinks a little lower, I want you to know this:
You can CHANGE this for the better! Yes, you can fit into your size 2 clothes again…yes, you can have the energy and the stamina of a teenager again…and yes, you can strip away that stubborn belly fat and reveal a 1) sleek, toned body and midsection or 2) rippling muscles covering your arms, thighs, or chest and of course the six-pack abs that you can wash clothes on.
How are we going to do this? Simple.
I am going to show you five different things that you do over the course of an average day that are not only causing you to gain weight, but making it even harder to lose that weight.
Are you ready to go on a journey? If so, buckle up and get ready to go for a ride to a flatter midsection and sleeker body.
Mistake #1: You Sleep In
I can agree—and I am sure you can too—that most people enjoy a little extra shuteye when they can.
But when it comes to shedding the extra pounds, sleeping in may be one of the worst things you can do.
Why?
Sleeping in throws off your sleep cycle! And when your cycle is off—which can be just a few minutes to 20 minutes—some hormones in your body may go on a rampage.
Which ones? Ghrelin to be precise. Ghrelin, as known as the hunger-hormone, may cause you to feel hungry at all points in the day…
…even if you just ate!
So, if you want to maintain your current weight loss—and look awesome by summer time—then you should keep a normal sleeping pattern that includes waking up and going to bed at the same time each day.
Mistake #2. Open Those Blinds
What’s the first thing you do when you wake in the morning?
For most people, it’s checking their emails on their smart phones or they start getting ready for their day.
But I am going to give you one weight loss tip that’s super easy to do each morning: Open your blinds and sit in the sun for a few minutes!
Studies show that exposure to sunlight—between 8am and 12pm--may stimulate your metabolism and keep weight gain at bay!
Researchers aren’t sure why (maybe Vitamin D production) but getting exposure to the sun early in the day could jumpstart your metabolism.

Mistake #3: Your Breakfast is All WRONG
Some say that breakfast will help stimulate your metabolism, while others say it won’t.
Theories aside, what you do eat for breakfast is probably the most important aspect to consider.
Do you eat cereal? Do you eat eggs and fruit?
If you prefer the cereal, then you may not see your abs anytime soon! Cereal is loaded with sugar, which could make you hungrier in the long run.
However, if you go with a hefty dose of protein and some fruit, then you may have more success slimming down and burning fat.
Making smarter choices for breakfast will help you reap the rewards in the future.
Mistake #4: You’re Running Late
I hate being late. It doesn’t matter if it’s getting the kids to school or being on time for a meeting.
Being late causes me to stress out. Does it do the same for you?
The reason why this is bad is pretty simple and boils down to one powerful hormone: cortisol.
When you’re stressed, cortisol is released which breaks down your metabolism-boosting lean muscle mass and promotes fat storage (amongst other things).
Take some time for yourself, meditate, go for a walk, try some yoga, or take your stress out on the weights!
Controlling your stress could go a long way to boosting your fat loss.

Mistake #5: It’s In Your Water (and shampoo)
I hate to tell you, but if you’re a fanatic about drinking bottled water, then you’re probably destroying your fat loss.
Why?
There are plenty of chemicals and toxins that could be leaching into your water, which could cause fluctuations in your hormones.
One of the biggest offenders is BPA. Not only is this chemical found in your plastic water bottle, but it’s also found in shampoo and deodorant.
Too much BPA in your system may make it harder for you to lose weight and keep it off!
Take Home Message
There are plenty of reasons why you can’t lose weight.
And it doesn’t always have to do with diet or exercise.
In fact, these common daily factors could make it harder to lose weight and get the ripped, toned, lean body that you’ve been after since graduating high school.
Make these five fixes today and you may see—and feel—the difference in your body, abs, and your metabolism.
