The 10-Minute Solution To Lower Blood Pressure?

Vitamin D

What can be said about this wonderful and much needed vitamin?

Well, I’m here to tell you that there is plenty to tell!

In fact, there are TWO major things linked to vitamin D: overweight people and increased diabetes risk.

Now, you can add one more thing to that list: reducing the risk for high blood pressure.

Vitamin D and Blood Pressure

As you get older, the systems in your body may start to act a little bit funny.

Sometimes your blood pressure is one of those things that go a little haywire.

Often times it has to do with poor diet and lack of exercise.

But, according to a new study, lower vitamin D levels in your body may also explain this issue.

Before we get into the study, let’s first explore – in simple terms – what blood pressure is and how it negatively may affect your health…

Blood pressure refers to the pressure exerted on the walls of your arteries as blood passes through them.

There are two readings: systolic – or when the heart contracts – and diastolic – when the heart relaxes and fills with blood between beats.

Now, you may know a normal reading as 120/80.  But when either the top or the bottom number starts to increase, this is where it may pose a risk to your health.

Hypertension may contribute to heart disease, stiffening of your arteries, and other conditions that may pose serious risk to your health.

So now that we have that out of the way, here is what the study showed…

The researchers performed a meta-analysis (collection of articles pertaining to the subject) looking at the association between high blood pressure and vitamin D levels.

They included 11 studies, with some of those studies looking at vitamin D intake from diet and the others looking at serum, or plasma levels of Vitamin D.

The studies included over 280,000 people, of which, roughly 55,000 people developed hypertension.

Here’s the interesting part:

People in the TOP ONE-THIRD showed a 30 percent LOWER risk for developing hypertension, compared to the lowest group.

And they showed that with each 10 ng/mL increase in vitamin D, there may be a 12 percent reduction in the risk for hypertension at some point in their lifetime.

One interesting suggestion they made during their study: Dietary intake of vitamin D may not be a valid way to assess vitamin D levels.

In fact, they said it may be inaccurate due to sunlight exposure being a major source of vitamin D.

They concluded:
“Studies are needed to determine whether the association of vitamin D with hypertension represents a causal association and also to determine whether vitamin D therapy may be beneficial in the prevention or the treatment of hypertension.”

Low vitamin D levels may affect a good majority of people living in this country and around the world.

It is associated with high overweight and obesity levels, diabetes, and now, increased risk for hypertension.

Although you can get vitamin D from many different food sources, another way to get adequate vitamin D is by stepping outside and soaking in the sun (but not for too long).

No matter how you get it, increasing your Vitamin D levels may provide tremendous health benefits in both the short- and long-term.
