The 5 Most Fattening Halloween Treats + 8 Healthier Options To Hand Out

Today is Halloween.

It seems like this is the one day of the year where kids – and adults – alike enjoy a little too much candy, treats, and SUGAR.

Although many people avoid the houses that give out apples, toothbrushes, or other candy-free treats, these could be the best houses to stop at if you’re worried about your – or your kids' – waistlines.

And since you’re not stopping at those houses – and you’ll be loaded with candy for the rest of the year – here’s a list of the WORST candy out there.

So, if you get any of these FIVE treats, you should probably immediately find a place for them …

…in the trash!

The Five WORST Halloween Treats

Want some scary statistics during Halloween…

Each year, Americans spend roughly 2 BILLION dollars on Halloween treats – to give out to innocent kids which, face it, usually end up in YOUR mouth….then on your hips…your butt…and your belly.

The reason: Halloween candy – well, all candy really – is filled with nothing but SUGAR and refined ingredients.

And this added sugar and refined and processed candy does nothing but spike your blood sugar, spike your cravings for this nasty junk, and ultimately lands right on your body in the form of layers of fat.

Well, thankfully, we have a pretty good list of the WORST Halloween candies you can buy:

1. Snickers Bars

The old saying “Snickers satisfies you” may be true…

But at what cost to your waistline?  Snickers really pack a wallop to your waistline by packing in nearly 300 calories, 30 GRAMS of sugar, and 14 grams of nasty fats.

So in one Snickers bar, you’re getting roughly five to six TEASPOONS of sugar.  Not good when you’re looking to lose some stubborn belly fat.

Give your waistline a break and put the Snickers bar down, and SLOWLY walk away.

2. Mounds

Everyone seems to like coconuts.  Mix that with a nugget of pure sugar and you have a Mounds bar.

This one bar is loaded with 250 calories, 21 grams of sugar, and 13 grams of fat.

And although coconuts are relatively healthy, when you combine them with sugar it makes for a pretty nasty fat-promoting treat.

3. Skittles

The rainbow of fruit flavor sure does pack in a TON of sugar in a small serving.

One bag of Skittles contains roughly 47 grams of sugar – one of the candies with the highest sugar content.

Plus, one bag of Skittles could set your caloric intake back 250 calories, which could lead to too many extra calories in your day.

4. Baby Ruth

This snack bar is loaded with peanuts, so you would think – protein – which could be a great thing.

However, this snack bar is loaded with caramel and sugar, therefore negating pretty much all the good the peanuts would do for your body,.

Don’t be tricked by this fattening, sugar-laden (33 grams in one bar) treat.

5. Butterfinger

Butterfinger was made famous by a popular TV cartoon character which may have boosted its sales.

However, this bar is loaded with sugar, fat, and other ingredients that could pose a danger for your waistline.

Remember, too much sugar could lead to intense cravings, sugar highs (and lows), and that awful shaky feeling.

But don't worry...we have some health treats that could be crowd pleasers...

8 Healthier Halloween Treats To Hand Out

Face it…

You’re going to be labeled the “bad” house this Halloween—since you want to keep your kids—and everyone else’s kid—healthy and happy for years to come.

And this isn’t a bad thing.

In fact, parents should be thanking you for not overloading them with sugar, which makes them run all over the place until they crash in a fiery mess.

But I regress…

Here are 8 healthy Halloween treats you can hand out instead of the usual sugar-filled, fattening candy options:

1. Yogurt Covered Raisins

2. Mini Granola Bars

3. Mini Pretzels

4. Popcorn (not the microwaveable kind)

5. Fruit Leathers

6. Fruit Chews

7. Craisins

8. Apples

Again, you won’t be the most popular house on the block…but remember, the kids really don’t eat a lot of the candy—the parents do.

So…not only are you protecting them from cavities and a lifetime of obesity…you’re saving yourself from the downfall that is Halloween candy.

Before You Trick…

Halloween is a great time of year…

But not for your waistline!  Halloween is full of high calorie, sugar-laden foods which may only up the ante on your waistline and belly fat.

Not to mention the waistline of your kids!

So before you allow your kids to indulge in a sugary treat that could spike their blood sugar and leave them craving more…

Try and ration out how much candy they eat while working in healthier snacks to offset the surge in sugar.
