I have some sobering news for you today…
Recent statistics released by the CDC show that 35 percent of Americans suffer from Metabolic Syndrome.
This condition, which is characterized by a mixture of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and increased fat accumulation in the belly, may lead to many other devastating health conditions.
Metabolic Syndrome may lead to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, just to name a few.
And although a very high majority of Americans suffer from this condition, there are ways to reduce risk factors associated with this condition to improve your overall health.
One way to reduce two symptoms (cholesterol and fat gain) associated with Metabolic Syndrome would be to drink more milk.
Yes, I did say milk! Let me explain…
Fermented Milk and Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome may be the next silent killer of many adults. Metabolic Syndrome may put you at risk for a number of different health conditions, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
That’s why reducing risk factors associated with Metabolic Syndrome is important for your overall health.
Now, you could exercise…
You could diet…
And you could do a combination of the two…
Although these are great ways to reduce factors such as belly fat, cholesterol, and blood pressure, many people don’t do it.
Instead, they make very little changes and their condition only gets worse.
But now, a new study shows some promise for people suffering from Metabolic Syndrome.
They have found that drinking 80 mL daily of fermented milk (contains beneficial probiotics) may a simple way to blast away belly fat AND lower cholesterol numbers.
But:
Before you think any type of fermented milk would be good, think again!
Numerous studies show that common probiotic strains (lactobacillus strains) are beneficial to those who may suffer from Metabolic Syndrome.
And this is welcomed news!
However, besides milk containing the lactobacillus strain, one other probiotic strain may be just as effective at slashing belly fat and lowering cholesterol.
And that strain is the Bifidobacterium lactis strain!
Researchers aimed to see what the Bifidobacterium lactis strain effect would be on lipid profile, glucose metabolism, and pro-inflammatory cytokines.
They separated 51 patients into two different groups: one group received 80 mL of fermented milk with Bifidobacterium lactis and the other was a control group.
Here’s what they found…
They found that the group drinking the probiotic-rich fermented milk had a significant reduction in body mass index, total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol levels (important for better heart health).
The researchers also noted a reduction in TNF-alpha, IL-6, and other pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Simply put, the fermented milk group lost more weight, lowered both total and LDL cholesterol levels, and had less molecules that cause inflammation (starting point for most chronic diseases).
They concluded: “These data showed potential effects of B. lactis HN019 in reducing obesity, blood lipids, and some inflammatory markers, which may reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with MetS.”
Conclusion
There are many people who may have the condition called Metabolic Syndrome.
This condition, characterized by high blood pressure, cholesterol, and lots of fat accumulation around the belly, may lead to many different chronic diseases if left untreated.
However, a new study gives those suffering from Metabolic Syndrome new hope!
A new study shows that those who drank a fermented milk with the probiotic Bifidobacterium lactis, had smaller waistlines, lower cholesterol, and less inflammation compared to those who didn’t drink the fermented milk.
This study could add another positive benefit to the use of probiotics when it comes to improving health and different health conditions in the body.
