Cutting out sugar is by far the “easiest” way to lose weight.    For years, everyone as a whole has blamed fat for creating an overweight society.  But we really need to take the blame off of fat and put the blame back to the rightful owner, sugar.

Numerous studies show that sugar may lead to obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.   And face it, you’re probably eating way to much sugar.

I know, I know…you probably don’t think you take in that much sugar.  It’s not like you’re dumping it into your drinks.

So even if you’re not dumping sugar into your drinks in the morning or eating it by the spoonful, there’s a good chance you’re coming close to eating a lot of sugar during the year.

In fact, it may be more addictive than heroin and cocaine!  But even though it’s tough to cut out sugar, doing it will create some awesome benefits.

1. Say HELLO to Portion Control

One of the hardest things about trying to lose weight is that you feel you need to change everything all at once.

Well, I have news for you…

You don’t!  The first tip you should focus on should be working on reducing your portion size.  Just by doing this simple trick, you’ll be cutting out unnecessary calories, which could translate negatively on the scale.

But:

When you focus on cutting back on your portions, you’ll be amazed at what happens to the scale.  Once you can attain the correct portions, then you can start to work on making simple switches to lower calorie, more nutrient-dense foods.

2. Balance, Balance, Balance

When you look at your plate, what do you see?  Do you see a heaping portion of starches or carbs and a little bit of protein? 

Where’s your healthy fat?

After you cut down on your portions, the next step is making sure that everything is balanced on your plate.
You need to have the right mix of protein (about 1/3 of the plate), healthy carbs (about ¼ of the plate), and healthy fats (about 2 tablespoons).

The more protein and healthy fats you have on your plate, the more in control of your appetite you will be.

You need to look at every meal—and every snack—with a critical eye,.  If you see too much of one nutrient, then you know where to cut back (and where to add) in order to have the best nutrient profile on your plate.

3. Increase your Omega-3 Fat Intake


In order to lose weight, you need to increase your intake of healthy fats.   Healthy fats, such as avocado and coconut oil, help to satisfy your appetite, which could literally save you hundreds of calories from mindless eating.
