Is It True That Stress Causes Heart Attacks?

Are you stressed from work or your home life?

Do you know that stress may literally be KILLING you?

There is a growing body of evidence that says mental stress may play a very large role in your heart health.

And not a good one!

Some studies show that mental stress – like the kind from work, home, or from other sources – may negatively impact your heart health.

And this could lead to heart attacks, strokes, or even death, if you’re not careful.

Now, although mental stress may play a role in heart health, there is a silver lining to all of this…

Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Mental Stress, and YOU

As you know, omega-3 fatty acids – like the kinds found in olive oil, krill oil, fish oil, and nuts – may be beneficial fats for your body.

And, for your heart!

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to alter your cholesterol levels (for the better) and lower triglycerides – all factors that may lead to better overall heart health.

And there is tremendous evidence that omega-3 fats may be useful as part of a heart disease prevention program (diet, exercise, and stress reduction).

Now, a new study shows, that omega-3 fatty acids may also improve heart health by reducing risk factors commonly associated with mental stress.

The study hypothesized that omega-3 fatty acids would blunt blood pressure and muscle sympathetic nerve activity – both common symptoms associated with stress.

Here’s what they found:

First, they gave 67 people omega-3 fatty acid supplements or a placebo for 8 weeks.

They showed that the omega-3 group had slower heart reactivity towards mental stress when compared to the control group.

It also reduced muscle sympathetic nerve activity compared to controls.

However, blood pressure was not affected by omega-3 supplementation.

The authors concluded:
“8 weeks of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation significantly attenuated both HR and total MSNA reactivity to mental stress and elicited a paradoxical blunting of calf vascular conductance. These findings support and extend the growing evidence that omega-3 fats may have positive health benefits regarding neural cardiovascular control in humans.”

Time for You to Take Action

Look, everyone is stressed…

Everyone has work, family, or just plain life demands.

And, the way you handle your stress may play a large role in how your body reacts to such stress.

Including how your heart reacts to it!

There is a growing body of evidence that shows mental stress may negatively impact your heart health – which could lead to heart attacks, strokes, or even death.

Luckily though, a new study shows that omega-3 fatty acid supplementation may reduce some of the factors associated with heart issues and mental stress.
