The Easiest Way To Prevent Metabolic Syndrome?
One disease, metabolic syndrome, is becoming more and more common in the U.S. and around the world.
This disease, which is a combination of different factors, increases your risk for developing type 2 diabetes, strokes, and heart disease.
Factors that are lumped together to form metabolic syndrome may include:
• increased weight around your belly
• increased blood pressure
• increased triglycerides
• insulin resistance
• Low HDL cholesterol
In order to reduce your risk for metabolic syndrome, or any of the diseases that accompany it, you need to lose weight by exercising, changing your diet, and changing your overall lifestyle.
But now, there may be an EVEN better way…
Something that you can include NOW, that may dramatically REDUCE your risk for metabolic syndrome.
Strength Training for Metabolic Syndrome
If you are like most people, then you may start a walking program, progressing to a jogging or running program, in order to improve weight loss, muscle tone, and endurance.
This MAY also help when you are trying to lose weight.
And if you have metabolic syndrome, then this may be the first step at reducing some risk factors, and improving your health.
But a new study shows that STRENGTH TRAINING, or lifting weights, may be MORE effective at reducing your risk for metabolic syndrome.
Pretty amazing stuff!
First, the study showed that MORE men lifted weights than women (11.2 percent to 6.3 percent).
But here is where the RESULTS MATTERED!
They showed that people who lifted weights (i.e. strength training), were 24.6 percent less likely to have metabolic syndrome.
And non-lifters were 37.3 percent more likely to have metabolic syndrome, which was pretty significant!
With and without adjusting for age, social class, and gender, the risk for metabolic syndrome was 58 percent (non-adjusted) and 37 percent (adjusted) when weight work was included into the exercise program.
They concluded:
“These findings suggest that lifting weights may play a role in reducing the prevalence and risk for metabolic syndrome among U.S. adults.”
Never Too Late To Start
Metabolic syndrome, which is a combination of many health conditions, continues to rise in the U.S. and around the world.
One way to reduce your risk is to lose weight, by eating right and exercising.
Plus, this study shows, that lifting weight may also reduce your risk for metabolic syndrome.
So, if you want to reduce your risk for metabolic syndrome…
Strengthen your muscles…
Burn more calories…
And get stronger…
Try adding weight work into your daily exercise program.
Not only could you reduce your risk, but you may even lose MORE weight and develop a lean and trim body in the process.
