"NEVER eat this salad dressing if you want to avoid a heart attack…"

By Jayson Hunter RD, LD, CSCS

CONSUMERS BEWARE: the store-bought olive oil salad dressing you’re using may actually contain different oils.

And, these oils may be wreaking havoc on your health.

Many popular, store-bought salad dressing brands may contain refined soybean and canola oil, which could be destroying your heart.

You see, when canola and soybean oil become refined, it changes the composition of the polyunsaturated fats - yes the ones that IMPROVE heart-health.

The refinement process causes the polyunsaturated fats to become oxidized, which could lead to increased levels of inflammation in your body.

And this is NO GOOD for your health.

Now, if you look closely at the label of your favorite commercial dressing - even the olive oil brands - you may actually find canola and soybean oil on the label.

There may actually be very LITTLE olive oil in your dressing!

Pretty deceptive, huh? And, they get away with it because of the small amount of olive oil found in the product.

These refined oils could be destroying your health - and the health of everyone around you!

Now, olive oil is good for your health - and that’s why we highly encourage you to find a PURE olive oil based product or simply make your own.

Olive Oil and Heart Health

Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce cholesterol and may even control insulin levels more effectively.

Plus, the antioxidants and polyphenols found in olive oil could lead to a reduction in inflammation and prevent damage to your cells.

In a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers found that including olive oil (as well as other foods filled with monounsaturated fats) could significantly reduce your risk for having a heart attack, stroke, or even dying from heart disease.

Although extremely beneficial to your health, it is still an oil, which means it could carry a high amount of calories, so it should be used in moderation.

Choose Your Dressing Wisely

Most salad dressings contain refined soybean and canola oils, which can lead to inflammation and poor health if you’re not careful.

And, even if you choose an olive oil based salad dressing, you may find that the product contains soybean and canola oil and very little olive oil.

In order to improve your health, you should be looking for PURE olive oil based products in order to gain the antioxidants, polyphenols, and healthy fats that have been shown to improve heart health.

Now, if you’re truly looking to AVOID a heart attack there is one oil you need to know about above all others. No, it’s not fish oil. In fact, fish oil can be extremely DANGEROUS to your health!
