Another Way Protein Helps You Burn Fat
Protein is a vital nutrient for your body.
It provides essential and non-essential amino acids.
Amino acids are the building blocks you need for muscle growth and repair.
Amino acids not only help you build muscle, but it may also aid in weight loss.
Now amino acids may also boost wakefulness, which may help you burn MORE CALORIES.
And these same hormones may stimulate fat burning in your body.
Let me explain…
Central Orexin/Hypocretin
There are many different hormones racing around in your brain.
And these hormones have many different functions which help keep your body and brain healthy.
One important hormone is the central orexin/hypocretin hormone and how it affects weight loss and wakefulness.
This hormone may stimulate the hypothalamus.
It also may increase body temperature and increase your cravings for food.
Research is ongoing on this hormone and how it affects your overall appetite and other systems in your body.
One version of this hormone, Orexin A (OXA) may stimulate your body to use more glucose.
There are hormones which help stimulate the use of glucose found in your blood.
The hormone GLUT 4 is located in the cytoplasm of your cells.
However, in the presences of Orexin A, GLUT 4 is transported to your cells plasma membrane.
This allows your cells to increase the intake of glucose.
OXA also stimulates lipogenesis in your cells and inhibits the breakdown of fatty acids.
OXA also stimulates adiponectin, which may increase weight loss.
Adiponectin is released from fat cells and stimulates the brain to increase metabolism.
Leptin, a hormone which is released by fat cells
is a long term measure of your energy stores
Leptin is also INHIBITS Orexin activity.
Amino Acids and Orexin
Amino acids from protein sources have long been used to promote muscle tissue growth.
It has also may help you lose weight in the form of fat loss.
But now, amino acids have a new use.
They have been shown to increase the activity of Orexin in your brain.
When there is increased glucose in your body, it blocks the activity of Orexin in your brain.
This may increase sleepiness and stimulate weight gain.
However, non-essential amino acids may block the activity of glucose, which has been shown to reduce the effectiveness of Orexin.
Glucose binds to the same receptor sites as Orexin,
therefore preventing Orexin from binding
By blocking glucose’s ability to bind to the receptor sites, this may enable the cells to accept Orexin.
Result: INCREASED wakefulness and stimulating METABOLISM.
Increase Your Protein
Protein may increase muscle mass and muscle growth.
Protein contains essential and non-essential amino acids, which may help reduce fat stores.
These same amino acids may also control certain hormones in your brain which stimulate wakefulness and may control weight gain and loss.
Non-essential amino acids may block the activity of glucose in your brain enabling Orexin to bind to receptor sites.
This may also stimulate the activity of GLUT 4 in your adipocytes as well as the secretion of Adiponectin.
Increased levels of Orexin may increase wakefulness, therefore stimulating your metabolism.
