3 Foods You Should OVEREAT
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
As you already know, there are billions – if not trillions – of living bacteria in your body.
These bacteria reside in your gut and provide many different functions in order to keep you healthy.
For example, they aid in immunity, fight off nasty toxins that can make you sick, aid in digestion, and even start the process of producing nitric oxide from some of the foods you eat.
With all that said, many people don’t keep their bacterial colony healthy and intact.
They feed themselves junk food, processed and refined foods, and excess sugar, which could lead to alterations in your gut bacteria.
Luckily though, we have a pretty good list of the RIGHT foods to eat in order to maintain your internal gut health.
Eat MORE of These Foods
The health of your gut is important for keeping all the cells in your body happy and healthy.
If there are changes to your gut bacteria – often called microflora – then there is a pretty good chance you may have issues in the future.
In fact, altered gut bacteria have been shown to promote weight – and fat – gain, reduced immune response, and other potential issues when it comes to keeping you healthy.
Now, the foods you eat may cause some of these changes, so making sure you’re eating the right diet is necessary for better gut health.
You may be asking, what foods are good for gut health?
Well, you should definitely be eating MORE of these three foods:
1. Lentils
Prebiotics – which are food for gut bacteria - are an important part of keeping your gut healthy and happy.
Since the bacteria in your gut grow and multiply very quickly, they need a food source to maintain the health of the colony.
And, lentils are the perfect food!
Lentils are a great source of fiber and prebiotics, which keeps your bacteria fed and happy.
Plus, lentils may even create an environment where specific nutrients (calcium, iron, and magnesium, etc.) are easily absorbed by your body.
Lentils are an important part of maintaining better gut health.
2. Probiotic-rich Yogurt
One food that people don’t get enough of is yogurt.
Yogurt contains millions of live cultures which only serve to strengthen your existing gut colony.
And, those same cultures may aid in the digestion of lactose, therefore making it easier for your body to handle it.
If you want to improve the health of your gut, including yogurt may be one of the easiest ways to accomplish this.
3. Quinoa
Roughly 30 percent of people may have some form of sensitivity to gluten.
And, this may cause stomach pains, gas, bloating, and diarrhea.
Most people who have issues digesting gluten, tend to shy away from many grains, rice, and whole grain breads to avoid any pain or discomfort.
But one grain – Quinoa – may be their savior in disguise.
Quinoa is a special grain that is gluten free, contains all NINE essential amino acids, and is loaded with fiber. It also contains the vitamins and minerals that your body needs in order to stay healthy and fit.
Next time, skip the rice and add a serving of quinoa for added nutrition to your meal.
The RIGHT Foods for Gut Health
If you want to improve your health – especially that of your gut – then choosing the RIGHT foods will go a long way at improving your health.
These THREE foods from above contain prebiotics, probiotics, and fiber that are necessary to maintain the health of your gut bacteria.
This may promote weight loss, better immunity from toxins and harmful bacteria, and better absorption of nutrients by your body.
