Who Else Wants To Prevent Their Heart From Failing?
Omega-3 fatty acids have been associated with a lower risk for heart disease, lower cholesterol and triglycerides, and mortality associated with heart failure.
In fact, research has shown that there is an association between omega-3 fatty acid intake (marine sources) and a lower mortality, as it relates to heart failure.
Heart failure, which is characterized by your heart not being able to pump enough blood to the rest of your body, is a long term, chronic condition.
It has been shown that the most common cause of heart failure is cardiovascular disease.
It has also been shown that higher consumption of omega-3 fatty acids, either from marine sources or in supplement form, could decrease your risk factors for cardiovascular disease as well as many other chronic conditions.
However, the data regarding omega-3 fatty acid intake and heart failure has been shown to be inconsistent at times.
Now, a new study published in Clinical Nutrition, could show an association between omega-3 fatty acid and fish intake, and lower risk of heart failure.
Let me explain…
Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Heart Failure
Heart failure can be a chronic, long-term condition that affects your heart muscles, making it less efficient at pumping oxygen-rich blood to the rest of your body.
There are two main types of heart failure. One has to do with the heart not being able to pump blood out of your heart very well (systolic heart failure), while the second refers to a stiffening of your heart muscle, which makes it harder for blood to fill your heart chambers (diastolic heart failure).
Different clinical studies have shown that higher intakes of omega-3 fatty acids could prevent heart failure, and prevent premature deaths.
However, since most of the data seems to be inconsistent, the authors of this study attempted to look at the association between omega-3 fatty acids and fish intake and the incidence of heart failure.
They performed a meta-analysis (collection of many different articles associated with the topic of interest) searching through databases like MEDLINE and EMBASES, where they included studies up until August 31, 2011.
They found 7 prospective studies that included 176,441 different subjects and 5,480 different cases of incident of heart failure.
When the researchers assessed the data, they found that people with the highest intake of omega-3 fatty acids and fish, showed a lower risk for heart failure compared to the lowest intake.
When the researchers broke the numbers down even further, they found that an increase of 15 grams of fish reduced heart failure risk by as much as 3 percent.
When they looked at omega-3 fatty acid intake, they found that a dose of 125mg of EPA and DHA resulted in a 5 percent decrease in heart failure risk.
From their results, the researchers concluded that their data is consistent with a lower risk for heart failure with intake from marine omega-3 fatty acids.
Although this research is new and exciting, the researchers did say that their results should be confirmed in a large randomized trial regarding omega-3 fatty acid intake and incident of heart failure.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Your Health
Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown in research to be very beneficial to your health.
They have been shown to improve heart health by altering cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and potentially lowering your risk for developing or dying from heart failure.
According to the results of this study, a higher intake of omega-3 fatty acids from marine sources and fish intake could lower your risk for developing heart failure.
Including fish and supplementing your daily routine with marine sources of omega-3 fatty acids could be beneficial to your heart - especially when it comes to the development of heart failure.

Especially Love The Omega Icon!
"My Husband has high cholesterol, not because of his diet or lack of fitness, but because of a hereditary condition, and with the use of your JayLab Pro EFAs, I am pleased to say he has been able to get off prescription medication that he had been using. As well, I enjoy your newsletters and recipes and share them with others. I find them all very helpful!

I Have Been Using Omega Icon For 6 Months And I Love It!
"I have chronic, long term arthritis in both knees and hips and I was taking Celebrex, but it causes its own set of issues, as you know. Among other things, I started taking JayLab Pro supplements, lost about twenty pounds and started regular exercising.
OMG, my life has never been better. No pain AT ALL in my knees other than the usual stiffness and slight difficulty up and down stairs. Otherwise, I run 2K a day, walk everywhere, do aerobics, and dance for hours. I could not have imagined such a thing just six months ago, so I just wanted to let you know. I am forwarding your website link to everyone I know and urging them at least to try."
