Clean Your Arteries With This ONE Food

There are tiny cells in your body – that without them – you may find yourself bleeding out of every hole imaginable.

But on the other hand, these same cells may also accumulate in your veins and arteries, therefore leading to adverse health conditions such as a stroke, heart attack, or even death.

The cells that play a very large role in overall homeostasis: platelets.

Platelets are cells that circulate through the blood vessels in people helping to maintain homeostasis, and when needed, form clots.

However, too few platelets and you may have excessive bleeding and too many may lead to blockages in the body, which could be detrimental to your health.

Now, there is a nutrient that may help the latter from occurring, therefore improving overall heart and vascular health.

Omega-3 Fats and Platelet Accumulation

When platelets accumulate in your body – also known as platelet aggregation – they clump together to form a clot.

And this could stop the blood flow to that particular area, for example, when you have a cut or scrape.

However, when there is inflammation or other damage inside your veins and arteries, then you may have an accumulation of platelets at the site of injury, therefore partially preventing – or slowing down - blood flow.

This could lead to a heart attack, or in the case if the clump breaks off from the wall, a stroke or even embolism.

And this could lead to some serious health complications – even death.

But researchers have made a great discovery!  And it involves the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA!

And it may alter platelet accumulation in both men and women.

Here’s what they found:

The researchers showed that in both men and women, EPA and DHA were able to reduce platelet accumulation when compared to placebo.

Here, however, is where it gets interesting!

When they looked at subtypes, they found that in men, EPA only reduced platelet accumulation by 18.4 percent when compared to placebo.

And in women, they found that only DHA was effective for reducing platelet accumulation by as much as 18.9 percent!

They concluded:

“The significant interactions between sex and specific, supplemental, long-chain n3 PUFAs result in platelet aggregation being differentially affected in men and women. With respect to thrombotic disease risk, men are more likely to benefit from supplementation with EPA, whereas women are more responsive to DHA.”

Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Health

Platelets – which are molecules in your body – are needed for maintaining homeostasis and for the formation of blood clots.

However, when there is too little, you may have excessive bleeding.  And on the flip side, if you have too many, you may find blockages in your veins and arteries.

Now, diet may play a large role in associated damage and platelet formation in your body.

And according to this study, including the omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, may reduce platelet accumulation in both men and women – with men benefiting from EPA and women benefiting from DHA.

Including omega-3 fatty acids into your daily routine may lead to improvements in heart health, and could even lead to less accumulation of platelets in your body.
