I bet you had NO IDEA just how beneficial olive oil is to your health…
Or did you?
Olive Oil and Health
For decades – centuries even – olive oil has been known to possess a number of different health benefits.
In case you didn’t know them, here is a short list of what health benefits olive oil - and its associated phenols - possess:
• Acts as an antioxidant
• Possesses anti-inflammatory properties
• Anti-atherogenic (prevent atheromas development in the artery wall)
• Anti-cancer
• Anti-microbial
• Anti-viral
Now, due to these reported health effects, olive oil is becoming a major topic of study – mostly in recent years.
And today is no different!
A new study published, shows that a compound found in olive oil, may be able to reduce secondary injury to your intestines following initial injury to the intestinal wall.
The compound – Ole aglycone – has been linked to many tremendous health benefits, one of which – inflammation – was the aim of this current study.
Here’s what they found:
That the mice treated with Ole aglycone had decreased inflammation levels compared to untreated mice.
Also, the mice treated with Ole aglycone, showed less apoptosis – or cell death – compared to the other mice.
They concluded:
“We propose that the olive oil compounds, in particular, Ole aglycone, could represent a possible treatment against secondary events of intestinal IRI.”
Olive Oil and YOU
Olive oil is not just for cooking anymore!
Over the years, olive oil may have become a staple in your cooking ingredients, simply because it tastes better, or because of its reported health benefits.
And, this is why olive oil has undergone more and more research in recent years.
Some of the benefits include: heart health benefits, anti-inflammatory benefits, and anti-cancer benefits, just to name a few.
Now, however, a specific compound – called Ole aglycone – has been shown to reduce inflammation, therefore potentially decreasing the risk for secondary intestinal injury following an acute injury to your intestines.
Now, this is one of the better fats out there in terms of reported health benefits.
But, there is one type of FAT – or oil – that may hold these same health benefits, plus many, many more!
