And this may lead to a whole host of problems as you get older – especially as it relates to your strength, muscle size, or even in the bedroom.
Now, there are many reasons for lower testosterone levels – with age being the number one culprit.
But, new research is showing, that this ONE drink may actually improve your testosterone levels, which could add many different health improvements.
Testosterone and Your Health
Guys, do you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and hardly recognize the person staring back at you?
Have you found your muscles have gotten smaller or are replaced by jiggling arms and a bigger than average gut?
Has your performance in the bedroom become more stressful than enjoyable?
What about your energy levels – do you think they peaked and are starting to go down?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be experiencing some form of lowered testosterone.
Studies have shown that testosterone levels may start to decline every year, usually starting around the age of 50!
But…
Some men may start to experience declining testosterone levels - or symptoms of declining testosterone - as early as in their mid to late 20’s!
Now, there are many different reasons for lower testosterone levels.
Do you carry a few extra pounds around your belly? Being overweight may be one cause for your lower testosterone levels!
Are you not eating the right foods? There are certain foods that have been shown to boost testosterone!
Have you stopped exercising intensely or stopped doing heavy squats or other resistance training? Certain movements and heavy weights may be linked to greater testosterone levels.
Now, here is a question that you DO need to answer: do you drink enough red wine?
Yes, red wine!
Although alcohol consumption has been linked to increased weight gain and other negative health effects, the consumption of red wine has been linked to increased testosterone levels.
Now, this has nothing to do with the actual alcohol content – but it has more to do with the phenolic compounds that are contained in the wine.
So here is what a brand-new study shows:
How They Increased Testosterone Levels
There is a type of enzyme in your body – called UGT2B17 – which may breakdown testosterone and other compounds in your body, and finally excreted by your body when you urinate.
Now, the study showed that red wine was able to inhibit this enzyme by as much as 70 percent over the course of TWO hours!
They did mention that ethanol – which is the main alcohol in wine – showed very little effect on this enzyme.
But when they looked at different phenolic compounds found in wine – quercetin, caffeic acid, and gallic acid – they showed that each one of these nutrients was able to inhibit – or stop – the activity of this enzyme.
The researchers showed that quercetin was able to reduce it by 72 percent, caffeic acid by 22 percent, and gallic acid by 9 percent!
They concluded that phenolic ingredients – independent of alcohol content – may reduce the rate of testosterone breakdown and excretion from your body.
Plus, this study could provide evidence that different dietary ingredients may enhance testosterone development and other factors that may affect testosterone metabolism.
Natural Ways to Boost Testosterone
Studies have shown that there are many ways to boost your testosterone levels.
Sleeping more, reducing your stress, the foods you eat, and the type of exercise you do have all been linked to increasing your precious T levels.
Now, according to this study, drinking red wine may be linked to increased testosterone, by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme responsible for lowering your T levels.
Although red wine has been linked to inhibiting the activity of this enzyme, it has been found that the phenolic compounds – as opposed to the alcohol – may be the main component responsible for this inhibition.
Oh by the way, there are a TON of nutrients linked to increasing your testosterone levels.
But most of them may be taken in the wrong doses or without the right combinations.
