Are Transformation Contests Right For You?

The New Year represents a brand-new start for most people.
It could be financial, or emotional, or anything really!
But what most people look for is a fresh start on weight loss!
They may join a gym…
Or hire a personal trainer…
Maybe even seek out the expertise of a qualified nutritionist.
Whatever the way to go about making this very important change, starting the year off on a clean slate is the most important step in the process.
But what can be said of transformation contests?
Are they dangerous? Will they help you to lose weight?
What about negative impacts of NOT winning the big prize?
All these are valid questions, but can be answered with a single statement:
Transformation contests may be EXTREMELY beneficial to the average person looking to lose weight!
Transformation Contests
There are plenty of ways to lose weight on your own, but there may be ONE better way to lose weight.
Wouldn’t it be great to go through the weight loss journey with others who are looking for the same thing?
Isn’t it better to have advice and support along the way – instead of going through it blindly?
Wouldn’t you like to WIN something for your efforts – besides getting in the best shape of your life?
And this, my friends, is where Transformation contests come in very handy.
Not only are you surrounded by like-minded people looking to lose weight, but the program is probably run by people who know what they are doing.
It could be a medical weight loss program…
Or a transformation challenge that everyone knows about…
Or it might be a little transformation challenge amongst friends!
Whatever the way you go about entering into a transformation challenge, there is a greater possibility for success when you participate in one of these programs.
Now, you may be asking: is it wrong to enter into a challenge to lose weight just for a reward (money, clothes, trips, etc.)?
And the resounding answer to that is NO!
Most transformation challenges offer some sort of reward at the end –be it a cash reward, or a prize of some kind – they all do it as a motivator to get you in the best shape of your life.
And for most people, this may actually work wonders!
Not only are you working towards your goals of losing weight and keeping it off, but you are doing it to be the “best”, the one who loses the most in order to win the prize.
And guess what, studies show that this type of motivation is MORE effective – or an incentive – for people to lose weight.
In fact, a study in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association shows that people who participate in a contest (like a transformation) that offers a reward, then they are more likely to lose weight.
In fact, here is what they found:
• The incentive group (people going after a prize for losing weight) lost on average 3.9 pounds more than the control group
• The group after the reward lost – on average – 14.0 pounds during 16 weeks
• Half of people in the incentive group, lost over 16 pounds whereas only 10.4 percent of the control group reached 16 pounds
• Over the course of SEVEN months, the incentive group (and a lottery group) lost more weight than the control group
The authors of this study concluded:
“The use of economic incentives produced significant weight loss during the 16 weeks of intervention.”
Transformation Contests and YOU
If you’re looking to lose weight, then joining a weight loss group, a group of friends looking to lose weight, or a transformation contest may provide enough incentive to help you along the way.
You may find that you’re not alone on the weight loss journey, which could come as a welcome surprise to you.
Although there are many different avenues, transformation contests may give you the support, the incentive (monetary or another reward), and community feeling that could stimulate you to even greater heights in your weight loss goals.
