An International Journal of Cancer study looked at omega 3 fatty acids such as those found in krill oil, fish oil, etc and analyzed how they affected the risk for pancreatic cancer.
The participants in this study took at least 850 milligrams of omega 3 fatty acids a day and reduced their risk of developing pancreatic cancer by 53 percent. The scientists say that omega 3 fats may help stop the growth of cancer cells.
Now there are other studies that have been conducted with Omega 3 fats so this isn't necessarily earth shattering, but to some individuals the research and information regarding omega 3 fats may still be very new.
For the last 4-6 years omega 3 fat research has been growing and growing. Primarily because of the results and benefits that scientists have been experiencing. The results have continued to lead them to more and more research.
It is a very exciting nutrient and so far is pretty amazing in regards to the benefits it provides.
Here are a few of the benefits that scientists have discovered.
1. Reduction of Internal Inflammation: Omega 3 fats achieve this by lowering the production of various prostaglandins and their effectiveness. They also compete for the same binding site as Omega 6 fatty acids, which science has shown us that Omega 6 fatty acids actually promote inflammation, which is a bad thing. So the more omega 3 fatty acids we have to block this binding site from Omega 6 the better off we are.
2. Joint Pain Reduction: Science has shown us that krill oil can reduce Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and improve morning stiffness, physical performance and decrease pain intensity.
3. Better Heart Health: High LDL cholesterol, high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol levels we all know are risk factors for heart disease. At 1 gram of krill oil per day scientists have seen a significant reduction LDL cholesterol and and increase in HDL (good) cholesterol.
