If you want to lose weight, you would need to cut calories and increase your calorie burn.
Exercise and dieting are two ways to cut calories and help with weight management.
Dieting alone restricts calories, therefore creating a calorie deficit which can help you lose weight.
However, with dieting the likelihood of a rebound in weight is very possible.
And research suggest, this rebound could increase your weight or cause even MORE weight gain.
However, components in capsaicin could have the potential to reduce weight AND prevent weight rebound.
Let me explain…
Capsaicin and Weight Regain
The use of capsaicin and its associated compounds has been used to lower body fat.
In fact, capsiate, one of the non-pungent components in capsaicin, has been shown in research to increase endurance by freeing fatty acids and using them for energy.
One way, it is believed, is capsaicin could reduce weight by increasing energy expenditure.
Capsaicin has the power to increase levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine in your body.
And this leads to the freeing of fat cells to be burned and used as calories.
Capsaicin is the pungent part of hot peppers and it gives the peppers their heat.
Eating hot peppers or red pepper flakes normally can cause pain, burning and gastro-intestinal problems.
Different components of capsaicin, however, are NON-pungent, and can be tolerated well by your body.
Capsinoids which are the non-pungent parts of capsaicin can potentially help you lose body fat and keep it off.
Researchers tested capsinoids to see if they were more effective at controlling body fat levels than dieting alone.
The researchers noticed that mice treated with Capsaicin (or one of its associated compounds), showed greater oxygen consumption than the diet only group.
Oxygen consumption refers to the time after exercise when your body burns more calories for anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours after your workout is complete based on current research.
This could increase calorie burn until your body reaches its pre-exercise state.
The researchers also noted that both groups lowered body fat accumulation, but they noticed that mice in the diet only group showed weight rebound.
Weight rebound can be very common in dieting. When you stop a diet, and resume your normal eating patterns, the likelihood of re-gaining lost weight or even more increases.
And, research suggests, most of the time this weight is re-gained as fat, due to increased calorie intake and the inability to process all the calories you are eating.
The researchers noted that fat accumulation and increased body fat levels could increase after being on a diet.
And that capsaicin can be more effective at suppressing body fat levels and keeping it off than by dieting alone.
Another Victory for Capsaicin
Once again, the possibility that capsaicin can improve weight loss has been proven.
Non-pungent components of capsaicin could pose even greater benefits on preventing fat accumulation than just dieting alone.
And, research suggests, this could potentially cause an increase in oxygen consumption associated with capsaicin treatment.
