4 Reasons Why You SHOULDN’T Worry About Your Weight
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
Phew, weight loss is hard work.
There’s the prepping, choosing the right foods, then there is cooking, preparing, and packaging that food to eat for the rest of the week.
Then, there’s the exercise. Getting out of work, running to the gym, spending ONE to TWO hours there, only to look and feel the same after the workout is over.
I mean really, aren’t there more important things to do with your time. Channel surfing, late-night snacking, and lounging around in your pajamas may come to mind.
Now, your family and friends (even your inner self) may argue with you, but here are some great points you can bring up to combat their argument.
1. You Don’t Get Migraines – EVER
New research shows that the higher your BMI (body mass index) is, the higher your risk is for having migraines.
And if you’re considered obese (BMI over 30) then you may have an 81 percent greater chance to have up to 14 migraines in a month period compared to those with a healthy weight.
2. You May Be LESS Likely To Get Cancer
Those peole who are leaner may have a lower risk for developing cancer compared to their overweight counterparts.
Although the risk is still there for everyone, people who are overweight and obese have a greater risk for developing cancer – especially later stage cancers – than people who are at a healthy weight.
One reason for the increased cancer rate: fat cells may have more hormonal changes or other factors that could speed up the growth of cells – usually resulting in tumors.
3. You'll Sleep Like a Baby
Sleeping is vital to functioning like a normal person during the day.
But, if you’re overweight, your sleep may easily be disrupted throughout the night.
This could lead to overeating the next day, insatiable cravings, and of course fogginess.
Plus, poor sleep quality has been shown to increase your risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other metabolic conditions.
You could also suffer from sleep apnea – or not getting enough oxygen into your body – because the weight or your chest may compress your throat, which restricts your flow of oxygen.
This means there is less air, less oxygen, and more of a demand is placed on your heart.
Plain and simple: not good for your health.
4. You Will Never Have a Problem Getting Pregnant
There are many men and women in this world who have a hard time getting pregnant.
And for those who are overweight, it gets even harder.
Some women who are overweight develop a condition called polycystic ovarian disease which can lead to infertility.
And, some overweight men may experience a change in their sperm, which could also lead to having trouble getting pregnant.
If you want to increase your odds of getting pregnant, then you should focus on dropping a few pounds.
Most overweight women – who lost weight – increased their odds of getting pregnant significantly.
The Need for Weight Loss
Obviously, if you made it this far, you understand that you SHOULD be focusing on losing weight.
Getting to and maintaining a healthy weight may improve many different aspects of your health.
If you need to lose weight, then you should be consuming a healthy diet, participating in an exercise program, and talking with professionals who know exactly how to get you the results you want.
Losing weight is not only good for your health, but it will improve your chances of getting pregnant, getting a good night’s sleep, reducing your risk for cancer (and other chronic diseases), and looking good in your jeans from high school.
So, for your health and to set a good example for those around you, take the right steps now to boost your fat loss and improve your health.
