3500.
This probably is the number you would like to see in your bank account…
But really, it’s the amount of calories you need to burn in order to lose ONE pound of fat!
Although burning 3500 calories should result in a pound of fat loss, be warned, 3500 EXTRA calories could end up in a pound of
WEIGHT GAIN!
Now, the recommendation is to burn at least 500 calories per day to total a calorie deficit of 3500 calories per week.
And the preferred method is to do it through diet and exercise.
But what happens when you think you cut 500 extra calories per day, but you really didn’t?
That’s right, less weight loss and more frustration!
So what can you do to ensure you're burning the right amount of calories?
Three Ways to "Shave" 500 Calories
In order to burn that extra pound of fat, you need to shave at least 500 calories from your diet or utilize a solid exercise program.
And if you think you have done just that – but are not budging on the scale – then chances are, you are including extra calories someplace along the way.
Here are three sneaky ways that you may be doing that are sabotaging your weight loss attempts:
1. Snacking in Front of the TV
The number one hidden way to add extra calories to your day is to eat – or snack – in front of the TV.
Why?
Mindless activities – like watching TV – may make you focus less on what’s going into your mouth.
How many times have you sat with a bag of chips in front of the TV and the next moment they are all gone?
It happens quite often and many people fall victim to this.
So, in order to avoid this pitfall, get up from watching TV and do some exercise or walk to the kitchen and grab a healthy snack.
Be sure to portion your snack(s) out, eat it slowly, and remember that once the snack is gone, then it’s gone! No going back for seconds, thirds, or the whole bag!
This should cut down on your calories, and with the exercise, help you take away at least 500 calories from your day.
Tip:One way to ensure that you never have issues with mindless eating, be sure that you eliminate the "junk" food from your house.
Get rid of soda, chips, candy, and processed snack cakes that could be tempting to eat when your bored. By eliminating these common enemies to your waist, you could keep yourself in full control of your weight loss.
2. Watch the Salad Toppers
Salad toppings easily are number two on the list! Things like nuts, dried fruit, bacon bits, and croutons can easily add more calories than needed to your salad.
And this could spell trouble for your waistline.
Do yourself a favor, next time you’re at your favorite restaurant or out with friends, be sure to get your salad toppings on the side.
This way you can easily monitor the amount of calories that you are putting on your salad.
And this could easily lead to 500 calories saved from your lunch or dinner salad!
Tip: Do you want to know an easy way to prevent yourself from overeating--besides taking off the toppings? It's to drink a tall glass of water before your meal.
Even if you're at a resturant, sip on your water while you order and keep it lite and refreshing. Water tends to fill you up, which means you should have less room to eat more food.
Then, once your meal comes (if it is large), simply ask for a box right away and pack half of your salad before you even start.
This will help keep those calories down and keep your weight loss in full force.
EDITORS NOTE: One thing you need to be sure you're eating more of, is protein. Added protein (like chicken, lean cuts of steak, and wild-caught salmon) could be great additions to a salad that could quickly satify your appetite and keep you from eating more. You can also try THIS powerful technique (comes with a great recipe book) to make sure your protein is on point.
3. Avoid Some Mixed Drinks
An easy way to add extra calories on a Friday or Saturday night – for those 21 and older – is to order up a fancy cocktail while out on the town.
Not only are you getting extra, empty calories from the alcohol, but the added “stuff” may put that drink over the top.
Most mixed drinks have sugary syrup, added sugar, heavy cream, and creamer that not only make them taste heavenly, but also skyrocket the calories.
Have TWO or more and you can wipe your weight loss goodbye!
What you should be ordering is a drink made with cranberry juice, tonic water, or straight up in order to cut down on your calories, but still give you the feel-good feeling you’re after!
Tip: If you really want to have a drink, but you're not sure of what you should have, here's a rule to follow:
Avoid beer, wine, or a cocktail and opt for clear alcohol or a low-calorie mixer. Sure, they may not be as fancy as the new craft beer you've been dying to try...
...but it should make you look a heck of a lot better when you're able to confidently drink on the beacn with your shirt off or in your sleek new bikini.
