Drink THIS Liquid Every Morning?
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
I hate to break it to you…
But I have an addiction. And my addiction is to coffee!
I know I am not alone…
The fact is, next to water and green tea (and maybe beer), coffee is the number one drink that most people consume to wake up in the morning or to get their day started.
Now, people will tell you that coffee is bad for you…contains too much caffeine…and it is just another way for a company to pad their bottom line.
Well, I am here to tell you one thing:
There are hundreds of studies that show coffee – in moderation – is great for your body and may improve many aspects of your health.
In fact, here are THREE of the most surprising benefits that you probably didn’t know coffee could do for you:
1. Coffee may Prevent Depression
A recent study – performed by Harvard School of Public Health – has shown that people who consumed coffee in the
morning, were less likely to develop depression.
It’s crazy, but true!
During 10 years of follow-up on over 50,000 women showed that women who consumed three cups or more coffee, were 29 percent less likely to be depressed compared to those who rarely drank coffee.
2. Coffee may Cut Your Risk for Diabetes
Studies show that coffee consumption may have beneficial effects on type 2 diabetes risk.
The reasons for the benefits were less clear!
However, a recent study may show why. Researchers discovered that, although there were no improvements in insulin sensitivity or glucose tolerance, showed marked improvements in metabolic profiles.
The reason: Coffee consumption may increase levels of adiponectin and fetuin-A concentrations, which may have led to improvements in fat cell and liver function.
Both are keys to better metabolic profiles, which could lead to improvements in diabetes risk.
3. Coffee may Make You Live Longer
According to a 2012 study, coffee drinkers may live longer than non-coffee drinkers.
In the study, researchers discovered that people who consumed one cup of coffee per day, were less likely to develop heart disease, diabetes, or cancer.
The reason: The antioxidants found in coffee may protect you from the development of these diseases.
Take Home Message
There will be people that will tell you not to drink coffee due to some unwelcomed habits that come along with it.
However, moderate coffee consumption may be linked to improved health benefits.
Studies show that those who drink coffee may 1) live longer, 2) may be less likely to develop diabetes, and 3) may protect you from depression.
So, it’s perfectly okay to enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning!
