Can These Three Healthy Foods WRECK Your Fat Loss?
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
No one wants to get fat.
That’s why everyone strives to eat the proper diet, get plenty of exercise, and replenish the body with lots and lots of sleep.
And that’s when most people turn to fad diets, dangerously low calorie restrictions, and potentially harmful “miracle potions.”
But one thing remains pretty constant: Many people adopt healthier eating patterns in order to strip away the belly fat.
And one thing most do is turn to healthier food options.
However, even some of the HEALTHIEST food choices could lead to fat gain….
Healthy Foods and Fat Gain
You already know that you need to eat the right foods if you’re going to lose any fat…
…and keep it off!
That’s why you turn to healthier food alternatives.
And although they are great for your body, eating too much of them may lead to excess calories and fat gain.
Here are THREE great examples of foods that are great for you, but could pack a serious caloric punch:
1. Red Wine
By now you’ve heard just how great red wine is for your heart.
Due to the high antioxidant content found in wine, it could lower your blood pressure, have a positive impact on your cholesterol, and could even reduce your stress.
However, drinking excess red wine (more than one FIVE ounce glass) could add too many calories to your day, which could end up leading to fat gain.
Tip: Limit the amount of red wine you drink to ONE, five ounce glass per day! This could limit your calories, but give you all the heart-healthy benefits you would expect from red wine.
2. Dark Chocolate
As we have pointed out in the past, dark chocolate contains a very potent nutrient that could spike your fat loss.
Not only that, but dark chocolate may contain potent polyphenols that could lower your blood pressure and improve your heart health.
However, eating too much chocolate could also add to your waistline…
Especially if you don’t eat chocolate that has a high cacao content!
Tip: Eat one to two squares of dark chocolate with high cacao content. This could limit the amount of sugar you’re exposed to, which could prevent the chance for added fat gain.
3. Nuts
Nuts provide a great amount of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamin E, and protein.
However, nuts also provide a great deal of calories per serving.
Tip: If you enjoy nuts, be sure to measure out your serving to avoid the mindless munching at your desk.
This could limit the total amount of calories you eat, plus, still give you the benefits normally found in a handful of nuts.
Take Home Message
Although these foods should be eaten for better health and fat loss results, going overboard on them may lead to excess calories.
And too many calories could ultimately lead to fat gain if you’re not careful.
Now, we don’t recommend you cut them from your diet completely – as they have nutrients that are needed for optimal health.
We do, however, recommend you eat them in moderation.
This way you may reap the benefits of nuts, red wine, and dark chocolate, without running the risk for greater fat gain.
