The Real Reason Why You’re Lazy?
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CES--Level 1 Certified Precision Nutrition and Certfied Personal Trainer
You may take a long whiff of this in the morning…
The aroma filling your house, car, or office give you that warm feeling deep in your soul.
Your coffee (or tea, or other caffeine-containing beverage)! The one thing that wakes you up in the morning and gets you ready for your day!
But, what you pair with your cup of Joe or tea may actually LOWER your drive and motivation to do the very thing that makes you money – your job.
The Impacts of a Poor Diet
Look, what you EAT with your tea or coffee could be making or breaking your fat loss results.
But you already know that…
I bet, though, you didn’t know that those same pastries, donuts, or sweets may be destroying your motivation and drive?
It’s crazy, but true!
You see, a team of researchers wanted to see the impacts of a highly refined, low-fat diet had on cognition when compared to a diet low in unrefined foods.
Here’s what they found…
The group on the diet of highly refined, low-fat foods gained significantly more weight than the unrefined group.
But, here is where it gets interesting…
They found that mice fed the refined diet showed significantly less lever presses and showed dramatically lower breaking points – which indicated a reduction in motivation for performance – when compared to the better diet.
The author concluded: “Diet-induced obesity produces a substantial deficit in motivated behavior in rats, independent of dietary fat content. This holds implications for an association between obesity and motivation. Specifically, behavioral traits comorbid with obesity, such as depression and fatigue [1], may be effects of obesity rather than contributing causes. To the degree that refined foods contribute to obesity, as demonstrated in our study, they may play a significant contributing role to other behavioral and cognitive disorders.”
Take Home Message
As you know, the foods you eat play a very big role in your life.
Eat the right foods and you may enjoy a fitter, stronger, and more productive life.
On the other hand, eat the WRONG foods and you may be overweight, at risk for chronic disease, and may lack the motivation to do anything.
As least that’s what the results of a new study show! The study showed that refined diets (low fat and highly processed) may lead to lack of motivation and weight gain compared to a healthier diet.
So for your health, fat loss, and motivation eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, essential fats, and whole grains in order to maintain a healthy weight (or improve fat loss) and keep your motivation at higher levels.
