Cut THIS Food To Strip Unsightly Body Fat
By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
I can remember it like it was yesterday…
The day I quit eating bread!
It was a truly memorable day – and one that will go down in the record books.
You see, every so often, I will try new things – a test if you will – just to see how a new type of diet or craze will affect my body.
Which brings me to why I quit eating bread…
You see, the low-carb lifestyle is by far the biggest diet craze going.
Not only are people living a low-carb lifestyle, they may be doing it at dangerously low levels, which could be impacting their health.
So, I wanted to see for myself, just what would happen if I cut bread – or complex carbs from my diet.
Here’s what happened (and no, I did NOT die)…
1. My Workouts Suffered
This was one of the first things I noticed when I stopped carbs.
Since complex carbs are a great source of glucose (or sugar), it knew that my workouts would start to suffer.
And boy did they ever!
You see, once you stop taking in a steady amount of sugar, the levels in your blood start to drop, which means your stored levels will also drop.
And the more intense your workout, the faster the drop in blood sugar will be.
Having less glucose to use for your workouts could mean that you will not be able to lift as much and your workouts may start to suffer.
2. My Cravings Went Away
One thing I can say is that after a few days of low-carbs, my cravings went away.
I no longer craved pasta, pizza, or other nutrient-dense foods. The reason: Junk foods – and the refined sugars in the junk food – may act like a powerful drug in your brain.
And in order to satisfy that craving, your body – and brain – needs more sugar – especially if you eat highly refined foods that contain nothing but pure sugar.
But that’s not all:
When you eat a lot of highly refined foods and sugar, this sends your blood sugar levels sky high, only to have them come crashing down soon after.
This rollercoaster ride sends your body and brain into a tizzy, which is simply not good for your health.
But once you eliminate refined foods in your diet, you may start to notice that your cravings are few and far between.
Why?
Well, the fiber found in fruits and vegetables may prevent the sharp increases in blood sugar, which could stabilize your levels throughout the day.
3. Lost a LOT of Water Weight
Studies show that each gram of carbohydrate stored in your blood holds THREE to FOUR times its weight in water!
That’s a lot of water to be stored in your body!
You see, your body stores sugar in the form of glycogen.
And as you start to break down glycogen stores, you start to lose the water that’s also stored in your body.
Result: Weight loss!
But remember, this weight loss is not from actual fat loss, but from the associated loss of water when you burn all that stored sugar!
My Personal Take Home Message
My personal take home message is this:
The low-carb craze may be very effective for stripping away belly fat and losing weight.
However, it may not be the only way to accomplish this feat. You see, carbs are a much needed nutrient for many different processes that occur in your body.
And although I did see some tremendous results, I would encourage you to think about a healthy, well-balanced diet.
One that is free from refined foods, and loaded with fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains would be a sound diet that could improve your body composition, help you shed the extra weight, and improve your overall performance.
