The Drink That Prevents Mouth Cancer?
In my younger years, I was warned about all the harmful effects of caffeine and coffee consumption.
And I was sucked right into those myths and lies.
But today, I know a little bit more about coffee and its potential health benefits.
Now, for most people, coffee is a way to wake them up in the morning, keep them alert throughout the day, or even keep their mind focused on the task at hand.
However, what they may not know – and you may not as well – is that coffee is beaming with healthy nutrients that may be needed for
optimal body functioning.
And no, I am not talking about the kind of coffee that is loaded with creamer, sugar, or other additives…
I am talking about just plain, old, black coffee.
Coffee in general may be a very good source of antioxidants and polyphenols that may aid in everything from weight loss, battling
inflammation, and even improving longevity.
However, today’s article focuses on a bigger topic and one that can take your life if you’re not careful…
Coffee and Month Cancer
Mouth cancer, if left untreated, may be a very harmful or deadly form of cancer.
In fact, over 42,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year and over 8,000 of them will die from it.
And of those newly diagnosed cases, slightly more than HALF of them will be alive after FIVE years.
Now, what accounts for most of the deaths –when diagnosed - is it is usually in the more advanced stages, with very little hope for survival.
For some, removal of the cancer, mouth, jaw, lymph nodes, and other areas of the face may save their lives.
But for most, due to the late discovery, the cancer may have spread and imbedded itself into other areas of the body.
Now, you may be asking what relationship coffee has with mouth cancer –which would be a great question!
There are many studies that show coffee’s potential at improving many different aspects of health.
Likewise, there are studies that show coffee’s effectiveness (depending on intake) at preventing mouth cancer.
Now, a new study may provide direct evidence that coffee may actually be able to prevent mouth cancer.
Here is what they found:
They assessed over 900,000 people, free from mouth cancer, and followed them for a period of 26 years.
In that time, 868 deaths were associated with mouth cancer.
Now, here is where it gets interesting…
Those who consumed more than FOUR cups of coffee per day had a 49 percent LOWER RISK for developing mouth cancer than occasional or no coffee drinkers.
They also noted that it was dose dependent, meaning that as coffee intake increased (or decreased) there was a relative decline (or increase) in risk.
And it wasn’t because of the caffeine either…
They showed that people who drank MORE than TWO CUPS of DECAFFEINATED coffee per day showed an inverse association with
mouth cancer.
They concluded:
“In this large, prospective study, caffeinated coffee intake was inversely associated with oral/pharyngeal cancer mortality.”
Potential Health Effects of Coffee
Your morning cup of Joe is not just to wake you up and keep you alert anymore.
Many studies have shown that coffee – when consumed regularly – may improve many aspects of health.
From lowering inflammation to increasing longevity, the potential benefits of coffee just keeps coming out.
The reason: coffee contains many polyphenols and antioxidants that may enhance protective effects inside your body.
Now, according to this study, increased coffee intake may actually reduce your risk for developing mouth cancer.
Coffee may now hold other tremendous benefits – some of which you may have never thought of before.
