Can These Three Foods Help You Survive A Heart Attack?

There are a lot of ways that you can reduce your risk for heart disease.

One would be including more cardiovascular exercise into your day.

Another would be changing your diet to include the right fats, lower sodium, and more fiber-rich foods.

And of course, including the omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, may also reduce your risk for heart disease.

Now, everyone will try to tell you what the right foods are to eat…

And, everyone will also try to tell you what the WRONG foods are to eat…

No matter what, if you haven’t changed your diet by now, then you really should think about including some of the foods from the list below.

Three Foods for Better Heart Health

Like I mentioned, there are many different foods that are perfect for lowering your risk for heart disease.

But, let’s take it a step further and tell you what you should AVOID:

If you eat fast food – STOP (too much fat, refined carbs, and sodium)!

If you eat prepared meals from the frozen food section – STOP (too much sodium)!

If you drink soda, alcohol to excess, and smoke – STOP!

These are three major risk factors for increasing your risk for heart disease.

But on the flip side, these THREE foods may REDUCE your risk, therefore promoting better overall heart health.

1. Oatmeal

And, no, we are not talking about the instant variety here…

Steel cut oats – or the REAL oats – are a great food for lowering your risk for heart disease.

They contain a TON of fiber, which has been shown to lower your LDL and total cholesterol, and may play a role in preventing heart disease.

Plus, they also have plenty of potassium, folate, and in some, omega-3 fatty acids!

So consider adding steel-cut oats, topped with honey or blueberries, in order to reduce your risk and strengthen your chances of avoiding future heart problems.

2. Avocado

Much like the coconut, avocados contain a high amount of fat.

But it's great fat for your body!

Avocados contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, which are easily broken down and used by most – if not all – the cells in your body.

Plus, avocados have been shown to lower your LDL cholesterol levels and boost your HDL cholesterol – or the protector of the heart.

And, some studies have shown that avocados may be able to help other nutrients (lycopene and beta carotene) have an easier time being absorbed by your body.

Nothing like a powerful fruit for lowering your risk!

3. Spinach

Spinach is on the list because it is a great source of many vitamins and minerals that are needed for improving overall health AND heart health.

It contains lutein, folate, potassium, iron, and fiber, which makes it a heart protecting machine.

But, in actuality, you really should be upping your intake of fruits and vegetables in general.

Those who eat more fruits and veggies per day may significantly reduce their risk for having a heart attack, stroke, or any other conditions associated with heart disease.

More Foods to Consider

Changing your diet may not only help you to lose weight, but it may also enable you to protect one asset that your body has – your heart.

These three foods are great for providing fiber, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats that are needed to maintain proper heart health.

Although this is a great list, there are many other foods that you can choose from.   Berries, legumes, salmon, olive oil, and nuts should also be included in a diet designed to protect your heart.

If you want to include foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and all the other great nutrients, then look no further to these foods listed above.

After all, your heart is what matters!
