The Three DIRTY Secrets About The Biggest Loser TV Show
America’s favorite weight loss show crowned their latest winner this past Tuesday.
And, although there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the announcement, it surely will not stop the show from appearing year after year.
The show – which can be motivational for the average person – may hold dirty secrets that the average viewer doesn’t know about – or even see in the two-hour show each week.
The Three Dirty Secrets
As you may know, many of the winners of the show have actually put some – if not most – of their weight back on.
And this should come as no surprise to you!
You see, as motivational as the show can be for those looking to lose weight, you only see a snippet of what happens during the taping of the show.
You don’t see what the contestants actually go through – each and every day.
But it’s relatively known that many of the people undergo dietary changes and grueling exercise routines, all designed to capitalize on their weight loss – and to draw in more viewers.
Here are some things of the things you don’t know about:
1. Caloric Restriction
As you know, eating enough calories is important for your weight loss. But, what happens when you don’t eat enough?
You may end up hanging on to your fat stores and using your lean muscle for energy. This may be a direct result of the starvation method – or the protective nature of your body when food is scarce.
One of the biggest reasons why people on the show lose a lot of weight may be due to their calories being restricted.
Although it may result in weight loss, it may slow your metabolism and put you at risk for many health issues in the future.
Plus, it could be one reason why many of the contestants gain their weight back – because they are not maintaining the same caloric intake, and exercise intensity and duration that they were doing while part of the show.
2. Too Much Exercise
For the average person, exercising for 30 minutes a day can be hard to fit in. Could you imagine working out for FOUR to SIX hours every day?
Well, that’s one of the things that the contestants need to do on the show. Now, most Olympic athletes, football players, and other sport athletes may work out this long to improve their performance and physique.
But the average person shouldn’t need to! A well-structured exercise program – one that uses HIIT training, strength training, and cardiovascular work – that is roughly 60 minutes in length should be enough to change your body and stimulate weight loss.
3. Behavior Modification
In order to change your body, you need to be able to change your mindset. If you don’t address the reason for your weight gain, then you probably won’t be as successful in your weight loss.
Changing your behavior and getting to the bottom of your eating habits, should enable you to find your happy place and help you make the changes you need for overall success.
But, when you do not address your behaviors, the chance of being successful may go down dramatically.
Take Home Message
For many people, weight loss shows like The Biggest Loser may motivate them to make healthy changes and exercise like the contestants.
But, you’re only getting a taste of what actually happens on the show in that two-hour period.
If you want to truly lose weight, then you need to change your behavior and attitude towards food, need to exercise (not too much though), and you need to eat the RIGHT amount of calories.
If you do these three things, then your overall chance for weight loss success should dramatically go up.
